Mae Alistair James yn gyflwynydd ar Capital Cymru. Mae e'n gerddor ac yn ganwr.
Dechreuodd ei yrfa cyflwyno ar orsaf radio cymunedol Tudno FM yn Llandudno. Aeth wedyn i orsaf Champion 103 cyn symud i Heart i wneud y sioe 'Drive Time'. Mae Alistair nawr yn cyflwyno’r Sioe Frecwast ar Capital Cymru sy’n darlledu i ardaloedd Ynys Môn a Gwynedd. Yn stod ei yrfa mae e wedi cyfweld â nifer o enwau adnabyddus, gan gynnwys Michael Bublé a Gary Barlow. Mae e hefyd wedi cymryd rhan mewn ystod o weithgareddau gan gynnwys cerdded i gopa’r Wyddfa i godi arian ar gyfer elusenau lleol, a hyd yn oed heriau hwla hwpio a chlocsio!
Amlygodd doniau cerddorol Alistair yn ifanc, yn dysgu canu’r gitâr a’r piano. Datblygoedd ei ddiddordeb mewn cerddoriaeth wrth wrando ar gerddorion fel James Taylor. Y cyngerdd cyntaf mae e’n cofio mynychu yw Elton John. Fel cerddor mae’n edmygu James Taylor, Mark Knopfler, Elton John a llawer mwy.
Yn wreiddiol o Lanfairfechan yng Ngogledd Cymru, clywer dylanwad ei gynefin a’i gariad tuag at Gymru yn nifer o’i ganeuon. Helpodd ddysgu Cymraeg i Rhod Gilbert yng nghyfres Big Welsh Challenge a chanodd yr anthem genedlaethol cyn gêm Cwpan Ewropeaidd Rygbi'r Gynghrair yn erbyn Iwerddon. Mae Alistair yn angerddol am ei wlad a’r Gymraeg.
Mae Alistair with ei fodd yn perfformio. Gellir ei weld yn perfformio ar lwyfannau o amgylch Gogledd Cymru yn rheolaidd ac mae hyd yn oed wedi perfformio tramor. Rhai o uchafbwyntiau perfformio Alistair hyd yn hyn yw rhannu llwyfan gyda Paul Young ac agor y llwyfan i Dafydd Iwan.
Yn ogystal â’r llwyfan a’r radio, mae Alistair wedi perfformio ar raglenni teledu Noson Lawen, Heno a Cân i Gymru. Mae Alistair wedi rhyddhau sawl albwm, gan gynnwys 'Ble'r wyt ti nawr', 'Y daith', 'Grym y gân’ a 'Tan tro nesa'.
Ar 29/02/2020 enillodd Alistair y drydedd wobr yng nghystadleuaeth Cân i Gymru 2020 gyda'i gân 'Morfa Madryn'. Mae’r gân wedi’i hysgrifennu am ei brofiad fel plentyn o gerdded adre ar hyd llwybr Morfa Madryn. Mae fideo o'i berfformiad anhygoel ar gael yma.
Ar 03/03/23 enillodd Alistair Cân i Gymru gyda'r gân Patagonia. Mae'r gân, fel mae'r teitl efallai yn awgrymu, wedi selio ar hanes sefydlu'r wladfa ym Mhatagonia. Curodd y gân dros cant o ganeuon o safon uchel i gyrraedd y rownd terfynol. Dylan Morris perfformiodd y gân yn fyw ar S4C ar noson 3ydd o Fawrth ar raglen Cân i Gymru yn Aberystwyth. Mae Alistair wrth ei bodd gyda'r newyddion a dywed dyma uchafbwynt ei yrfa hyd yn hyn. Llongyfarchiadau enfawr. Canlyniad mor haeddiannol.
Cafodd Alistair James y fraint o berfformio Patagonia gyda Dylan Morris a'r Moniars Bach yn yr Ŵyl Ban Geltaidd ar 13eg Ebrill. Daeth y gân yn ail yn y gystadleuaeth Cân rhyngwladol.
Alistair James is a presenter on Capital Cymru. He’s also a musician, songwriter and singer.
His presenting career started on the community radio station Tudno FM in Llandudno. He then moved to the station Champion 103 before progressing to present the Drive Time show on Heart. Alistair now presents the Breakfast Show on Capital Cymru, broadcasting to Anglesey and Gwynedd. During his career he has interviewed a number of well-known names, including Michael Bublé and Gary Barlow. He’s also taken part in a range of activities including walking to the top of Snowdon to raise money for local charities, and even hula hooping and clog dancing challenges!
Alistair’s musical talent was obvious from a young age, learning to play the guitar and piano. His interest in music developed from listening to musicians such as James Taylor. The first concert that he remembers attending is Elton John. As a musician, he admires James Taylor, Mark Knopfler, Elton John and many others.
Originally from Llanfairfechan in North Wales, you can hear the influence of his hometown and his love for Wales in a number of Alistair’s songs. He helped to teach Rhod Gilbert Welsh as part of the Big Welsh Challenge and sang the National Anthem before the Rugby League European Cup against Ireland. Alistair is passionate about his country and the Welsh language.
Alistair loves to perform. You can catch him performing regularly on stages all over North Wales and he’s even performed abroad. Some of Alistair’s performing highlights are sharing a stage with Paul Young and opening the stage for Dafydd Iwan.
In addition to stage and radio, Alistair has also appeared on television programmes Noson Lawen, Heno and Cân i Gymru (Song for Wales). Alistair has released several albums, including 'Ble'r wyt ti nawr', 'Y daith', 'Grym y gân’ and 'Tan tro nesa'.
On 29/02/2020 Alistair won third place in the Cân I Gymru 2020 competition with his song 'Morfa Madryn'. The song was inspired by his childhood memories of walking home via the Morfa Madryn path. A video of his outstanding performance is available here.
On 03/03/23 Alistair won Cân i Gymru with his song 'Patagonia'. As the title suggests, the song is about the history of the Welsh settlement in Patagonia and was chosen from over one hundred entries to be performed in the live television final. Dylan Morris performed the winning song live on S4C on March the 3rd in Aberystwyth. Alistair is delighted with the win, which he describes as the highlight of his career so far. Huge congratulations. Such a deserved win.
Alistair James had the honour of performing Patagonia with Dylan Morris and y Moniars Bach in the Pan Celtic Festival on 13th April. The song came second in the international song competition.
