Ysgrifennodd Alistair y gân ‘Morfa Madryn’ am ei brofiadau ac atgofion o fod yn blentyn. Mae’r gân yn cydnabod anhawsterau tyfu i fyny ond yn dathlu’r teimlad o ddiogelwch sy’n dod o weld tirwedd cyfarwydd. Clywer ei atgofion trist ym mhenillion y gân wedi’i gwau rhwng dylanwad ei gynefin a’i gariad at adref yn y cytgan. Mewn byd llawn ansicrwydd, mae Alistair yn dod o hyd i heddwch wrth iddo gerdded ar hyd llwybr gwarchodfa natur leol, Morfa Madryn i’w “dirgel dir atgofion ger y môr”.
Ennillodd Alistair y drydedd wobr yng nghystadleuaeth Cân i Gymru eleni gyda’r gân hon. Dywed Alistair ei fod mor ddiolchgar am y gefnogaeth cafodd trwy gydol ac ar ôl y gystadleuaeth. Mwynheuodd y profiad a chwmni’r cystadleuwyr eraill a gallai “ddim fod yn hapusach” am y canlyniad.
Yn ogystal, mae Alistair wedi ychwanegu caneuon Alaw'r Atgofion, a Drop me a line (fersiwn Saesneg o Alaw'r Atgofion) at y sengl. Mae Alistair yn lais cyfarwydd yng Ngogledd Cymru fel cyflwynydd y sioe frecwast ar orsaf radio Capital Cymru. Ysgrifennodd y gân am sut mae atgofion a theimladau’n gallu llifo’n ôl wrth wrando ar alawon ar y radio. Recordiodd Alaw’r Atgofion yn arbennig ar gyfer Diwrnod Radio’r Byd fel deuawd gyda chyflwynydd arall, Angharad Rhiannon ac eto gyda’r cynhyrchydd Russ Hayes. Mae’r caneuon hon yn flas ar beth sydd i ddod ar yr albwm newydd. Edrychwn ymlaen yn fawr at glywed rhagor gan Alistair James!
Alistair wrote the song ‘Morfa Madryn’ about his experiences and memories of being a child. The song acknowledges the difficulties of growing up but celebrates the feeling of calm that comes from being at a familiar landscape. We hear his unhappy memories in the verses of the song intertwined with the influence of his surroundings and his love for home in the chorus. In a world full of uncertainty, Alistair takes solace in walking along the path of the local nature reserve, Morfa Madryn, to his secret land of memories by the sea.
Alistair gained third place in this year’s Song for Wales competition with this song. Alistair said that he was incredibly grateful for all of the support he was given both during and after the competition. He enjoyed the experience and the company of the other contestants and “couldn’t have been happier” with the result.
Additionally, Alistair has included the songs Alaw'r Atgofion and Drop me a line (An English version of the same song) to this single. Alistair is a familiar voice is North Wales as he presents the breakfast show on Capital Cymru radio station. He wrote this song about how old memories and feelings can come flooding back whilst listening to songs on the radio. Alaw’r Atgofion was recorded especially for World Radio Day as a duet with another presenter Angharad Rhiannon, and again with producer Russ Hayes. These songs are a taste of what is to come on the new album. We can’t wait to hear more from Alistair James!
